Active directory Partitions

1.Configuration
2.Schema
3.Domain
4.Application (Hidden Partition)

○Configuration stores configuration objects for the entire forest in cn=configuration,dc=forestRootDomain

○Schema stores class and attribute definitions for all existing and possible Active Directory objects in cn=schema,cn=configuration,dc=forestRootDomain

○Domain stores users, computers, groups, and other objects for a specific Windows Server 2003 domain

○Application Directory Partition

Windows Server 2003 can also store one or more application directory partitions, which can be created by applications or administrators as container objects.
The DNS application partitions are unique because they are created by the DNS service, not an administrator
An enterprise administrator is required to create new partitions.

●To create or delete an application directory partition

1.Open a command prompt,Type ntdsutil
2.At the ntdsutil command prompt, type domain management
3.At the domain management command prompt, type connection
4.At the connection command prompt, type connect to server ServerName
5.At the connection command prompt, type quit
6.At the domain management command prompt, do one of the following:


To create an application directory partition, type create nc ApplicationDirectoryPartition DomainController

To delete an application directory partition, type delete nc ApplicatioinDirectoryPartition
